Vernon Barnard Bio

Vernon Barnard born 8 September 1993 with glaucoma, an eye condition that left him blind after 16 eye operations to try and save his sight.
Vernon completed matric in 2012 at Pioneers school in Worcester as the elected head prefect.
Singing and motivating others is his passion followed closely by his love of sport, particularly cricket. In 2012 he was chosen for the SA blind cricket team that competed in the World Championship in Bangalore, India. A huge honour as he was the youngest and only school boy on the team. He played for the team again in 2014 when the World Championship was hosted by Cape Town in South Africa.

Vernon sang in front of a crowd for the first time in 2012 at a school talent competition. The response was overwhelming and the realisation that his love of singing brought joy to others fuelled him on. Requests for CD’s were pouring in and in 2014 he released his first CD “OVERCOME” that included 15 songs.

Vernon was invited to perform at the 2014 & 2015 Bravo festivals in Mosselbay attended by +- 2000 people.
He was being noticed and invited to open shows for well-known South African artists such as: Elvis Blue; Mathys Roets; Dewald Wasserfal; Kurt Darren; Lianie May; Ampie & Charlize Bergh.

His big breakthrough came in the form of MNet’s The Voice SA competition. At his first audition he sang One Direction’s “Story of my life” and brought the judges to tears. The youtube video of the audition went viral and after 8 months received in excess of 10 000 000 views.

After making it to the final round of The Voice SA, Vernon was signed with Universal Music and recorded his debut single called “I Like It That Way”. It was released 2nd September 2016 and was played regularly on local radio stations and reached the Top 10 on various stations. Reaching the number 1 spot on the Jacaranda Saturday Top 20 was a huge milestone.

Singing the SA Anthem at the opening ceremony of the SA vs Ireland rugby test at Ellis park in June 2016 was, to quote Vernon: “one of the greatest moments of my life”.

Vernon’s unbelievable talent, combined with emotional and motivational story-telling through song is his unique way of communicating the pictures hé sees through his heart – painted with emotion. His humility and compassion is inspiring, his talent and work ethic paves the way for a long and successful career as artist.
